Joining Habitat is simple - you are considered a member of our chapter as long as you participate in one non-meeting event.
Active members are those people who have come to three or more build trips or fundraising events within the past 6 months.
Being active in Habitat has its benefits. UMD Habitat for Humanity is an official Certifying Organization for the President's Volunteer Service Award, a prestigious national honor offered in recognition of sustained volunteer service. The award is based on the number of hours you volunteer - keep track of your hours with Habitat and you can receive the award through us. Email Cathy Yi with questions about this program.
In addition, being active in Habitat leads to the next step - becoming an officer. UMD Habitat is a large and well-known student organization, and the leadership experience gained from being an officer is immense. Elections are held yearly in November.
