UMD Habitat for Humanity
About Us

-Mission-

Habitat for Humanity is an international organization focused on ending poverty housing and homelessness worldwide. Volunteers work in nearly 100 countries, raising money and building homes for families who lack adequate shelter. Since the founding of Habitat in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller, volunteers have built 225,000 houses and provided shelter to more than 1 million people.

Homeowner families work alongside volunteers on their own homes, and upon completion they receive their homes at zero profit and through zero interest mortgages. The money from their mortgages is in turn used to fund the construction of even more Habitat houses. People who volunteer with Habitat are a part of something huge -- another Habitat house is completed every 21 minutes!

The University of Maryland campus chapter has three main goals: More >>

  • Building houses
  • Raising funds
  • Raising awareness
